How to recognize a wart on the feet? Warts are skin lesions that occur in various parts of the body, including the feet. They are often confused with corns, moreover, it happens that they are also incorrectly referred to as corns or corns. How to recognize a wart and how is it different from a common corn?
Causes of wart formation
The appearance of a change in the form of a wart on the surface of the foot is the result of infection with a virus called human papilloma. Viral infection can occur as a result of direct or indirect contact with the carrier. In addition, the development of infection may be favored by several additional factors, among which the following should be mentioned:
- immune disorders,
- foot wounds,
- wearing ill-fitting shoes
- walking in borrowed shoes or borrowing your own shoes.
It is particularly easy to become infected with the human papillomavirus in places such as swimming pools, gyms, beaches, large swimming pools, bowling alleys, but also beauty salons. These changes most often affect the elderly and children, i.e. people with reduced or less responsive immunity.

Types of warts
All warts appearing on our body can be divided into several basic types, primarily due to the exact place of their occurrence, as well as their appearance. Changes occurring on the feet and around the nails are usually common warts, but it is not a rule. Deep or mosaic warts may also appear on the surface of the feet. In addition, deep warts are divided into lesions with or without single eruptions. Flat warts are bumps that can be seen on the hands, forearms and face. They are characterized by a slightly darker shade than foot warts, a flat shape and a shiny surface.
Wart – diagnosis
Proper diagnosis of the lesion appearing on the surface of the foot is crucial, as it enables appropriate steps to be taken to treat it. Attempts to remove viral warts by methods that work well for eliminating ordinary corns will be useless.
What does a wart look like at the very beginning of its development? The change initially takes the form of a small lump of just a few millimeters. Its surface is uneven and rough, while the color is very similar to the color of the skin. At this stage of development of the wart, it is most often misdiagnosed and confused with a corn. However, it is worth, in case of any doubts, to seek help from a podiatrist who will help us accurately and accurately diagnose the developing skin change.
Foot warts most often appear on the soles, which often cause pain or discomfort. If we start to feel unpleasant stinging or pain while walking, we can expect that a viral wart develops on the skin of our foot.
Warts and prints
How is a wart different from an ordinary corn? First of all, this change is caused by the presence of the virus, in contrast to the imprint, the appearance of which is caused by pressure, friction or mechanical damage. The difference is also visible in the shape and structure of both skin lesions. The corn is usually a slightly larger, but less compact structure with a pale yellow color, while warts are small in size and irregular in shape, as well as very hard and grayish in color or a shade similar to the skin.
Of course, there are different ways to treat corns and warts, i.e. viral warts. In the first case, a mechanical method of removing thickening or a modern CO 2 laser can be used , while in the second case, in addition to any laser, liquid nitrogen or electricity treatments, pharmacotherapy is most often needed.
It is also worth remembering that the holders of corns are not able to infect others with them, while people with viral warts can. If a viral wart appears on our foot, we should minimize the risk of spreading the virus and infecting people around us. Therefore, you should give up walking barefoot around the house for some time, as well as visiting swimming pools, saunas or the beach.
However, regardless of which of the changes we are dealing with, it is necessary to use the help of a specialist, such as a podiatrist. In the podiatry office, we will receive a professional diagnosis, and then, together with a specialist, we will implement the necessary treatment steps. After its completion, the subologist will also inform us how we can prevent the problem from reappearing. Both corns and warts should not be removed by yourself at home; very rarely this procedure is successful, on the contrary, it can only lead to the deterioration of the current condition and inflamed skin lesion and infection.
